Zillah (Reynolds) Haskins was born on 24 May 1824 at Neversink, Sullivan County, New York, the daughter of Reuben Reynolds and Abigail Groo. She was married on 3 June 1852 in Meigs County, Ohio to Joel Haskins (1817-1856). The couple had three children- Maria (1853-1933, m. William Gardner Russell), Ellen (1854-?), and Joel (1856-1921).
