I researched the Henry Colt family and was able to identify the people in most of the photographs.
Henry Orne Colt was born on 29 July 1881 in
Pittsfield, Massachusetts, son of William Francis Colt and Alice Orne.[1]
The family has not been located on the 1880 census. On 6 June 1900, Henry lived
with his mother, sister Frances, and uncle and aunt Henry and Fanny Colt at 193
South Street in Pittsfield, Berkshire County, Massachusetts. He was attending
school.[2]
In April 1904, Henry was staying at the Grand Hotel in Billings, Montana.[3]
In November 1905, Henry was living in Wolf, Wyoming when he stayed at the
Northern Hotel in Billings.[4]
Mr.
Colt and his bride will spend their honeymoon in Yellow stone Park and then
they will go to Mr. Colt’s ranch in Pearl, Mont.[6]
Katherine
was born on 23 September 1876 in Delaware, Delaware County, Ohio, daughter of
Frank Gerhart and Fanny C. Downer. On 9 June 1900, Katherine lived with her
parents, sister Mary L., and a servant Minne Hanson at 841 S. 15th
Avenue in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Her father worked as a
lumber dealer.[7]
She was married first to Frank Andrews.
In
November 1908, Henry and Katherine from Sheridan, Wyoming, were visiting
friends in Billings, Montana.[8]
Henry’s
mother Alice O. Colt died on 13 January 1909 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. A
gentle woman with many fine qualities of mind and heart, Mrs. Colt was greatly
lived in this community. She was very fond of her home, her family, her church,
and her acts of charity were many.[9]
In
January 1910: Fred Newberry, the young ranch hand who forged the name of
Henry O. Colt of Pearl to a number of checks, was sentenced to the Wyoming
penitentiary last week. The forger attempted to pass the checks at Sheridan where
he was arrested and tried in the district court.[10]
On 16
April 1910, Henry and Katherin lived in the Decker School District in Rosebud
County, Montana. Four employees lived with them- Peter and May Rimmer, A. V.
Rorsley, and Harry Cushing lived with them. Henry was operated a horse farm.[11]
In October 1913, Henry was the administrator for the estate
of William Chalmers, who had died in an automobile accident in September.[12]
In March 1914: Henry O. Colt prominent among the stockmen in the southeastern
part of the county was here from Pearl Thursday.[13]
On 8
January 1920, Henry and Catherine, their children Mary Alice and Henry, and a
servant Mildred Frost lived at 240 Wyoming Avenue in Sheridan, Sheridan County,
Wyoming. Henry worked as a farmer.[14]
Henry Colt had a sister, Frances G. Colt (1883-1967). One photograph is of her.
The family moved to California. On 7 April 1930, the couple
and their children Mary Alice and Henry lived at 7221 Olivetas Street in San
Diego, California. They owned their house, valued at $20,000 and had a radio.
Henry was not working.[15]
On 11
April 1940, Henry and Katherine and their son Henry, Jr., lived at 7221
Olivetas Street in San Diego. Son Henry worked as an aviation mechanic.[16]
The box of photos also contained some blueprints for an addition to their home, a black-on-white photo, and some colorized photos of the family home at 7221 Olivetas Street in La Jolla. I checked on GoogleEarth but could not determine whether the house was still standing.
In 1942, Henry registered for the draft while living at 7221
Olivetas Street in LaJolla.[17]
Katherine
died on 25 October 1946 in San Diego.[18]
She was buried in the Cypress View Mausoleum and Crematory in San Diego.[19]
Henry
was married second on 29 September 1948 in Sheridan, Sheridan County, Wyoming to
Lucy White Mead.[20]

between 1948 and 1956 the Colts moved to Tucson, Pima County, Arizona.

Corvallis, Oregon.[28]
Raymond died on 4 February 1974 in Tucson. He is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.[29]
Henry and Katherine's children.
There were many photographs of two people in the box. I suspected these people, the ones with the fanciest photographs, were Henry and Katherine's children, Mary Alice and Henry Jr. I was able to verify this because both graduated from the University of Southern California and their photographs appeared in yearbooks available on Ancestry.com.
Henry enlisted as a Private in the United States Army on 11 March 1941 in Los Angeles,
California. He was 5 ft 6 inches tall and weighed 128 pounds. He was also
single.[31] There are several photographs of him in uniform, some of them large format and hand colored.
