Two pictures, both with a man with a big curly hairdo, the second with a woman with another big hairdo.

The first photo is from The Hall Studio of Plainfield, Wisconsin.

Charles Powell.

On the back of the first photo, difficult to read, is "Uncle Charles Powell" and "Grandma Ramsey's brother."

Back of photo.

The second photo does not have a studio mark. On the back, very difficult to read and written in pencil, is "Uncle Chas. Powell and aunt Rose."

Charles Powell and Rose,

Who was Charles Powell? And was Rose his wife or sister?

Plainfield, Wisconsin is in Waushara County. On Ancestry census I searched for a Charles Powell living in Waushara County. A single entry came up. In 1900, Charles W. Powell, born April 1869 in Missouri, boarded in a house in Plainfield owned by William and Violett Decker. He was working as a minister.

I checked Ancestry Public Trees for a Charles Powell born in April 1869 in Missouri- no matches.

After some other fruitless searching on Newspaper.com (looking for Charles Powell, 1900, Wisconsin), I wondered whether Charles had returned to Missouri. In 1910 there were six Charles Powells born within two years of 1869. Two were Charles W. Powells. The first one I clicked on was a minister who had children born in Wisconsin.

POWELL, Charles W. head 42 married 6 years, b. Missouri, minister

POWELL, Julia E. wife 30 married 6 years b. Wisconsin

POWELL,  Vinita M. daughter 5 b. Wisconsin

POWELL, Genevieve A. daughter 3 b. Wisconsin

POWELL, Charles W. 11/12 son b. Missouri

(1910 US census, Howell County, Missouri, West Plains Ward 1, ED 82, sheet 6B, dwelling 138)

Findagrave (Memorial 75482371) reveals that Rev. Charles Whiting Powell was born on 14 April 1898 in Odessa, Lafayette County, Missouri, and died on 24 September 1941 in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. Hiw wife was Julia E. Preston.

Is this the right Charles Powell? I am uncertain. I could not find a Rose associated with the Charles Whiting Powell. I also could not find a sister of that man married to a Ramsey.
