I purchased this photo at the local fire-persons monthly sale. It is obviously a reprint of another photo. No studio mark. 

On the back in blue ink is:

"Taken on the farm at Pond Creek Okla after we were all married & having our families

left to right Ollie Mar Mother Dad Bernard Myrle LeRoy"

Ollie, Mae, Mother, Dad, Bernard, Myrle, Leroy (the child peeking between Dad and Bernard is not identified).


Pond Creek is a small town in Grant County, Oklahoma. I started searching censuses for the family in Pond Creek, but then switched to Grant County when nothing was coming up. 

I focused on the names Myrtle [I was misreading Myrle for Myrtle] and Bernard. Couldn't find them in the 1930 or 1920 or 1910 censuses. In the 1900 census I searched for Bernard and found the following family in Berry, Grant County:

Jason T. Elder, 39, head

Allena Elder, 30, wife

Ollie E. Elder, 13, daughter

Katy M. Elder, 11, daughter

Robert V. Elder, 7, son

Clara M. Elder, 3, daughter

Jason L. Elder, 2/12, son

Someone had sent in additional information, identifying Robert V. Elder as Robert Bernard Elder. I noted the presence of the daughter Ollie. I then wondered if the other children went by their middle names. This proved to be the case. Katy's middle name was Mae, Clara's middle name was Myrle, and Jason's middle name was Leroy.

On Findagrave I found the members of the family.

Jason Thomas Elder, 1860-1933, buried City of Weslaco Cemetery, Weslaco, Hidalgo County, Texas.

Allena (Maphet) Elder, 1869-1954, buried in City of Weslaco Cemetery.

Ollie E. (Elder) Reneau, 1887-1961, buried in San Jacinto Valley Cemetery, Riverside County, California.

Katie Mae (Elder) Davis, 1889-1957, buried Fairview Cemetery, Pampa, Gray County, Texas.

Robert Bernard Elder, 1893-1978, buried Garden of Memories Cemetery, Kerrville, Kerr County, Texas.

Clara Myrle (Elder) Langseth, 1897-1984, buried in Fairview Memorial Park, Alburquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico.

Jason Leroy Elder, 1900-1981, buried in Divide Cemetery, Groveland, Tuolumne County, California.

I purchased a box of photos at an estate sale here in Tucson for $20. Very few of the photos had names on them, but luckily there were a set of letters written in 1927 that identified them as belonging to the Henry Colt family. The letters were written by a teenaged girl to the son of the family. She was at a summer camp in Maine. They didn't provide much useful information other than a name and address. Letter to Henry Colt, Olivetas Street, La Jolla, California. The photos were of a variety of people. The oldest three are of a child, a pair of young women, and a group of men posed in front of a log cabin. Unidentified child. Two unidentified women. On the back: Eatons. I purchased a set of photographs of University of Michigan students from the late 1890s. Three of them were the same individual, Edgar P. O'Leary.  The first is from the Gibson and Clark studio of Ann Arbor, Michigan. On the back in pencil is "Edgar O'Leary." Edgar O'Leary. The second photo does not have a studio name. It is quite small, 3.5 inches by 3 inches. On the back in black ink is "Mr. O'Leary May 24 1898" and the letter L. Mr. O'Leary. The third photo, also quite small, does not have a studio name. On the back in black ink is "Edgar P. O'Leary July 10-99 After" The word After is in quotation marks. Edgar P. O'Leary.  What can I learned about him? I searched Newspapers.com  and Genealogybank.com for "Edgar O'Leary."  I quickly discovered he had moved from Michigan to Colorado. I located census records in Kansas and Colorado.
