Another fire department estate sale photo find. A folder containing over-sized photos from the Risdon studio of Safford and Clifton, Arizona. On the back of written in ink "Elizabeth Maurer Safford Ariz Box 373." Stamped on the back in red and black ink is "17 31 20."

I went to Findagrave.com and searched for Maurer living in Safford, Graham County, Arizona. One couple showed up, Benjamin and Elizabeth Maurer. I assumed that the photos are of that couple (and this was proven when similar photos were found on Ancestry.com).

Benjamin Maurer was born on 1 January 1869 in New York, the son of Benjamin Maurer and Mary Haller.

Benjamin was married first on 5 September 1891 in El Paso County, Texas to Ella M. Dalton. Ella was born in December 1871 in New York.

By August 1897, the couple was living in Willcox, Arizona. Ben owned land in Safford (Graham Guardian (Safford, Arizona), 13 August 1897, page 1, column 3). They moved to Safford in September 1898 (Weekly Republican (Phoenix, Arizona), 22 September 1898, page 3, column 3).

On 8 June 1900, Benjamin and Ella Maurer lived in Precinct No. 1 in Graham County, Arizona. Benjamin was working as a farmer.

Benjamin filed for divorce against Ella in January 1904. The divorce took place prior to 6 July 1905, when Ella married W. H. Poindexter in Willcox, Arizona (Tucson Citizen (Tucson, Arizona), 7 July 1905, page 4, column 3).

In November 1905, Ben Maurer "has resigned as road master on the railroad and C. C. Mallard appointed to fill the vacancy (Graham Guardian (Safford, Arizona), 10 November 1905, page 1, column 6).

Benjamin was married second in 1905 in Safford to Sallie Carrie (Moyers) Elledge. Sallie was born on 21 January 1892 in Georgia, daughter of Felix Moyers and Cornelia Daily. She died on 2 March 1928 in Globe, Gila County, Arizona, and was buried in the Antonito Cemetery in Antonito, Conejos County, Colorado.

On 18 June 1910, Benjamin and Sallie and a hired man, Charles Fisher, lived in Precinct 5 of Graham County, Arizona. Benjamin was working as a farmer, helped out by Charles.

On 5 January 1920, Ben and Sallie lived in Solomon, Graham County, Arizona. He worked as a farmer.

Sallie died from a tumor of the spinal cord on 2 March 1928 in Globe, Gila County, Arizona.

Benjamin was married a third time on 30 October 1928 in Clifton, Graham County, Arizona to Elizabeth A. (Hoffman) Crabbe.

Elizabeth was born on 4 August 1887 in Monclova, Ohio, the daughter of Frank Hoffman and Isabel Corrie.

On 21 April 1930, Ben and Elizabeth lived in Solomonsville, Graham County, Arizona. They owned their home but did not have a radio. Ben was no longer working.

Benjamin died on 12 November 1935 in Safford. I could not find a death certificate for him.

After Benjamin's death, Elizabeth was married a third time to Lee Stratton.

Elizabeth died on 18 June 1940 in Safford from cerebral apoplexy (a stroke).
