I purchased a framed set of photos on the Goodwill.com auction website ($13.99). On the back was a handwritten note:

The photographs are copies made in 2006 (not originals). My initial research on Ancestry Public Trees for Oscar Patterson and Miller Patterson were unsuccessful- too many individuals. 

So then I searched for a Ruth Patterson with a mother Aurilla Jackson and immediately found them. Ruth Mary Patterson (1917-2001) was the daughter of Thomas Carlyle Jackson and Maria S. Skliba. Maria's parents were Wenzel Skliba and Mary Mishka and matching photos of the couple were posted on Ancestry (the one in the photo collage is one of those pencil drawings popular in the early 1900s. From there I was able to figure out the rest of the photos.


Myra Isabel (Patterson) Keller was born on 18 July 1920, the daughter of Myron Oscar Patterson and Aurilla Therese Jackson, and died on 26 December 1977. She is buried in Broken Bow Cemetery in Broken Bow, Custer County, Nebraska.


Myron Oscar Patterson was born on 15 February 1887 in Library, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, the son of Richard Miller Patterson and Mary Isabelle Patterson. He was married in 1917 to Aurilla Theresa Jackson. He died on 3 April 1951 in Gresham, York County, Nebraska and is buried in Purdum Cemetery in Purdum, Blaine County, Nebraska.


Richard Miller Patterson was born on 15 May 1832 in South Fayette Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. He was married to Mary Isabelle Patterson. He died on 22 October 1912 in Atwood, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania and is buried there in the Atwood Cemetery.


Mary Isabelle (Patterson) Patterson was born on 18 February 1859 in Peters Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania. She was married (as his second wife) to Richard Miller Patterson. She was his first cousin. She died on 17 April 1898 in Atwood, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania and is buried there in the Atwood Cemetery.


Wenzel Skliba was born on 22 April 1829 in Prague, Czechoslovakia. He was married in 1858 to Mary Mishka. He died on 29 September 1902 in Boone, Boone County, Iowa. He is buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery #1 in Texas County, Missouri.

Mary (Mishka) Skliba was born on 14 September 1835 in Prague, Czechoslovakia. She was married in 1858 to Wenzel Skliba. She died on 30 January 1923 in Purdum, Blaine County, Nebraska. She is buried there in the Purdum Cemetery.


Thomas Carlyle Jackson was born in 1856 in Mercer County, Pennsylvania. He was married to Mary Skliba. He died in 1924 and is buried in Purdum Cemetery in Purdum, Blaine County, Nebraska.

Mary (Skliba) Jackson was born on 22 April 1861 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, the daughter of Wenzel Skliba and Mary Mishka. She was married to Thomas Carlyle Jackson. She died on 13 June 1947 in Purdum, Blaine County, Nebraska and is  buried there in the Purdum Cemetery.


Aurilla Therese (Jackson) Patterson was born on 16 September 1894. She was married to Myron Oscar Patterson. She died on 5 March 1966. She is buried in the Purdum Cemetery in Purdum, Blaine County, Nebraska.

Ruth Mary (Patterson) Schmidt was born on 17 December 1917. She was married to Raymond A. Schmidt. She died on 2 July 2001. She is buried in Spavinaw-Strang Cemetery in Spavinaw, Mayes County, Oklahoma.

I purchased a box of photos at an estate sale here in Tucson for $20. Very few of the photos had names on them, but luckily there were a set of letters written in 1927 that identified them as belonging to the Henry Colt family. The letters were written by a teenaged girl to the son of the family. She was at a summer camp in Maine. They didn't provide much useful information other than a name and address. A photo with minimal information. Can I identify the family? I purchased a lot of photos from an estate sale auction. This one was in a modern frame. I could see the photographer's studio mark- E. J. STONE, DEXTER, MICH. When I removed the photo from the frame, I found TODD FAMILY on its back. Who were these people? I went to the Directory of Early Michigan Photographers available online here . Two more photographs. They are by the C. A. Carlson studio at 1509 Fifth Street in West Superior, Wisconsin. The first has written in black ink on the back is "Mr. & Mrs. Matson." The scone has written in black ink on the back "The Matson children September 1895." So I started by looking at the 1900 census for Douglas County, Wisconsin where West Superior is. There were 27 Matsons. There were four heads of households. None of them had five children. I then searched Matsons throughout Wisconsin, and found that there were 572. I checked the counties bordering Douglas County- Bayfield, Burnett, Ashland, and Washburn- and failed to find any matches. So these people will remain unidentified for now.
