I cannot remember where I purchase this photo. It is from the Andrew Horne studio of Plainville, Kansas. Plainville is in Rook County.

On the front in pencil is "Hannah Shores[,] Aunt Maria's daughter." On the back in pencil is "This is for Frank. Hannah & Dessie. Silvanus's oldest child."

I was unsure if Shores was Hannah's maiden name or married name. I was unsure if Dessie was her child. Also unsure who Silvanus was- was he her husband?

I search Rooks County for Shores. Nothing. I broadened by search looking for a Hannah with a mother Maria in Kansas. Didn't find her. 

I ended up searching Public Trees for a Hannah married to a Shores with a mother Maria. This was successful, especially since the person had a cropped version of the photo.

Hannah Porter was born on 8 December 1869 in Highland County, Ohio, daughter of Powell Byrd Porter and Mariah Jane Custer. She was married to William Shores. She died in 1944. She was buried in Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak, Jewell County, Kansas.

Dessie was born on 12 October 1888 at Oronoque, Norton County, Kansas, the daughter of Silvanus Garmon Porter and Anna Amanda Stewart. She was married to Mr. Baber. She died on 19 January 1958 in Jourdanton, Atascosa County, Texas, She is buried in Pleasanton, Atascosa County, Texas.

I purchased a box of photos at an estate sale here in Tucson for $20. Very few of the photos had names on them, but luckily there were a set of letters written in 1927 that identified them as belonging to the Henry Colt family. A photo with minimal information. Can I identify the family? I purchased a lot of photos from an estate sale auction. This one was in a modern frame. I could see the photographer's studio mark- E. J. STONE, DEXTER, MICH. When I removed the photo from the frame, I found TODD FAMILY on its back. Who were these people? I went to the Directory of Early Michigan Photographers available online here . Eight photographs from an extended family from Iowa. A photograph from the H. S. Hoot [?] studio of Eagle Grove, Iowa [Wright County]. On the back in black and blue ink is "The Hansen family 1908-9" and the following names: Nancy Nellie Adel  Chris Axel  Agnes Hannah  Nora   Edmond   Clarence Grandpa & Grandma Gertie         Hansen I searched the 1910 census for Iowa for Axel Hansen and quickly located the family in Troy, Wright County, Iowa. Hans, Caroline, and Hans C. were born in Denmark (came to the USA in 1884), the other children were born in Iowa. Hans was a general farmer, Hans C. was a grain buyer, and Axel was a laborer on the farm.
